Homemade granola

My sister and I were finding ourselves spending a lot of money on granola. Which tasted great but we noticed that not only does it cost a lot of money but there is also a lot of packaging involved in each box of granola. So I figured  lets make our own that way we know exactly what we are putting into it and no packaging necessary! Making your own granola is easy and you can add or take away any ingredients you like.

3 cups oats

2 tablespoons brown sugar

sprinkle of cinnamon

2 tablespoons all natural peanut butter

1/3 cup agave

2 tablespoons coconut oil

Sprinkling of hemp hearts

1 cup shaved almonds

1/2 cup raisins

2 tablespoons flax meal

Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees

Pour 3 cups of oats into a large mixing bowl, add the brown sugar cinnamon. In a sauce pan melt the coconut oil and stir in agave and peanut butter until mixed, pour this over the the oats and mix until all the oats have been covered. Pour evenly onto the baking tray and toast for 25 minutes stir half way through after 25 minutes they should be toasted and golden take out and add the rest of your ingredients that you want and then I like to put back in the oven for 5 extra minutes. Then take out cool down and store in an air tight container.

We serve ours with unsweetened vanilla almond milk.

Granola is a great source of fiber, it contains soluble and insoluble fiber. Fiber is also good for heart health, by scraping the arteries clean of dangerous LDL cholesterol or omega fatty acids that can lead to heart problems.
